BREAKING: Court Sentences Bobrisky To Six Months In Prison
- Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okuneye, has been sentenced to a six-month jail term
- Bobrisky's sentencing follows his admission of guilt to a four-count charge of abusing the Nigerian currency, the Naira
- The legal troubles for Bobrisky were triggered by an incident where he extravagantly sprayed money during the premiere of the movie "Ajakaju,"
Nigerian internet personality Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has been handed a six-month jail term without the option of a fine. This verdict was delivered by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on the morning of Friday, April 12.
The judgment was pronounced after Bobrisky admitted guilt to a four-count charge of abusing the Nigerian currency, the Naira, which was brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky’s legal troubles stemmed from an incident where he lavishly sprayed money during the premiere of the highly anticipated movie “Ajakaju,” produced by actress Eniola Ajao, at the Film One Circle Mall in the affluent Lagos neighborhood of Lekki last month. Footage of the event circulated widely on social media, potentially prompting authorities to take swift action.
This isn’t the first instance of a Nigerian celebrity facing legal consequences for mishandling Naira notes. In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin also received a six-month prison sentence for similar offenses involving the spraying and stepping on new Naira bills.
