Land Sale Proceeds Are Not Entirely For Chiefs- Otumfuo
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has observed that chiefs unlawfully lay claim to all proceeds from the sale of lands, leaving their jurisdictions in sorry states deprived of development.
He stated that proceeds from a land sale must be divided into four and apportioned to the reigning chief, the stool, elders of the town and the Town Development Committee (TDC).
“Proceeds from the sale of land are apportioned. If you decide to take all the money, no development will be witnessed in the town.”
The one apportioned to the TDC, he said must be utilized to undertake various developmental projects and infrastructures including schools, water, health and others.
“All land proceeds must be divided into four, one for you, another for the stool, one for elders and the last for community development. Town Development Committee use theirs to undertake development.”
He asserted that 99 out of 100 traditional authorities would lose their positions if he decided to pursue such cases.
“This goes to all traditional rulers. Most of them are guilty of this. If I decide to follow up on this 99 out of 100 selected chiefs would be destooled,” he said during his counsel to Kwasohene Nana Osei Fosu Adutwum who had besieged him to swear the oath of allegiance on April 8, 2024.
