Ghana’s vital Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) faces a crisis. Declining infrastructure and a lack of government support threaten this essential healthcare facility.

Deteriorating Facilities, Inspiring Action

Years of neglect have left KATH’s infrastructure in shambles. Recognizing the urgency, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II launched the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, raising funds for renovations. Public support, especially from the Ashanti region, has been strong.

Alarming Hurdles: Duty Fees and False Narratives

However, critical challenges have emerged. Imported renovation materials face a hefty GHC1.2 million duty fee at Tema Harbor. Shockingly, the government, responsible for KATH’s upkeep, has refused to assist, implying the materials are private. This inaction extends to a complete lack of government funding for renovations.

Further complicating matters, false narratives have been spread on social media, claiming a large donation from the Asantehene. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to deflect from the government’s inaction.

KATH: More Than a Building, It’s Our Lifeline

KATH is more than bricks and mortar. It’s the birthplace of our children, the solace for the sick, and a symbol of hope. By jeopardizing KATH, we endanger the well-being of every Ghanaian.

A Call to Action

We urge the Ghanaian government, particularly the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and Ghana Medical Association, to take immediate action. The time to honor their commitment to public health is now.

Influential Figures, Take Note

We call upon Dr. Okoe Boye, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, and Stephen Amoah to escalate this matter.

To Those Sabotaging KATH

We urge those hindering KATH’s renovation to reconsider. Their actions harm not just the hospital, but the health of all Ghanaians.

Together We Can Save KATH

Let’s unite to ensure KATH’s survival. By working together, we can reaffirm our commitment to a healthy Ghana built on compassion, care, and solidarity.
