Akufo-Addo Appoints Osafo-Maafo’s Son As New Director-General of SSNIT

President Akufo-Addo has designated Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo as the new Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, who is the offspring of President Akufo-Addo’s Senior Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, assumes the role, replacing Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang. Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang has been instructed to hand over his responsibilities by Monday, April 15, according to a letter dated April 8, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, and addressed to Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang.

The letter states that Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s appointment, dated July 1, 2019, issued by the Public Services Commission, is terminated effective April 15, 2024. He is offered three months’ salary in lieu of notice. Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang is directed to facilitate a smooth transition by handing over his office to Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo and is advised to claim any entitled terminal benefits.

The transition is expected to be completed by the end of business on Monday, April 15, 2024. The letter concludes with gratitude for Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s service to the nation and best wishes extended from the President.
