Head potters without homes in Kumasi are appealing for urgent government assistance.
These head potters, comprising both young and elderly women who have migrated from various regions to Kumasi in search of employment opportunities or better prospects, find themselves without shelter.
Originating from regions including the Central, Northern, Western, and Upper West, these individuals have resorted to residing within the makeshift structures of second-hand cloth vendors at the Racecourse market. Here, they live alongside their children, performing household chores and sleeping amidst their meager belongings.
During a visit to the area by Kumasi.city these homeless individuals fervently urged the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly authorities and the government to intervene promptly.
“Our makeshift homes in the market expose us to risks of robbery, rape, and diseases from insect bites,” they lamented.
“With the meager incomes we earn, it’s challenging to afford proper accommodation for our families. Therefore, we appeal to NGOs, the government, and other corporate entities for assistance in securing housing,” they added, highlighting their dire need for support.
