Witness The Spectacle: Total Solar Eclipse Crosses North America Today!

Today’s the day! A total solar eclipse will grace the skies across North America, offering a glimpse of a rare cosmic phenomenon. Hundreds of events are planned to celebrate this awe-inspiring sight, stretching from Mexico all the way to eastern Canada.

What is a Solar Eclipse?

This celestial event occurs when the Moon perfectly aligns between the Earth and the Sun, blocking some or all of the Sun’s light from reaching us. This alignment is crucial, creating a shadow cast by the Moon onto Earth’s surface.

How Rare is This Event?

Total solar eclipses happen somewhere on Earth roughly every 18 months. While the continental US enjoyed one in 2017, the next significant opportunity won’t come until 2045, making this a sight to behold!

When and Where to See It

The entire event will unfold over two hours. For those in the Eastern Time zone, the eclipse will begin just after 2:00 pm EDT (7:00 pm BST) and end around 3:46 pm EDT.

The path of totality, where viewers can witness a complete blackout of the Sun for a brief period, starts in Mazatlán, Mexico (Pacific coast) at around 11:07 am local time (2:04 pm EDT). The path will then travel northeast, crossing parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, and reaching the US-Canada border before ending in Newfoundland, Canada.
