During a Special Public Lecture at the Wisconsin International University College in Accra, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, unveiled plans to revamp the government’s structure if elected president in 2025. He emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive development strategy that reorganizes focus within various sectors.
Mr. Mahama announced intentions to dissolve the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, citing its perceived ineffectiveness. He proposed returning sanitation responsibilities to Local Government, aiming to cut government spending and enhance efficiency.
Furthermore, he advocated for consolidating several other underperforming ministries, such as Aviation and Railways, into the Transport Ministry. This move, according to Mahama, would streamline operations and reduce the number of ministries, leading to cost savings and improved coordination.
In his address, Mahama stressed the importance of optimizing resources and enhancing effectiveness across government agencies, signaling a potential shift towards a more centralized and efficient governance model.
