Former Ghanaian national team captain Asamoah Gyan has voiced his strong belief that the current Black Stars squad should revolve around the talents of West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
Gyan, an iconic figure in Ghanaian football history, showered praise on the emerging talent of Kudus, asserting that the 23-year-old has emerged as the standout player of this generation for Ghana.
Speaking on Asempa monitored by Kumasi.city Gyan drew parallels between Kudus’ impact and the legendary players of Ghana’s past, including himself, Michael Essien, and Abedi Pele, suggesting that Kudus is now leading Ghana’s football narrative.
“In the past, we’ve seen eras dominated by greats like Essien, Pele, and myself. Now, it’s clear that Kudus is leading the charge,” Gyan remarked.
Highlighting Kudus’ stellar performances both domestically and internationally, Gyan emphasized the midfielder’s remarkable achievements, particularly in the Premier League with West Ham United.
“He’s not just excelling in Europe, but notably in the toughest league, the Premier League. Kudus is not only shining in Ghana but also on the continental stage, making him stand out among African players,” Gyan emphasized.
Kudus, who transferred to West Ham from Ajax, has made a significant impact in his debut season in England’s top flight, showcasing his prowess with notable assists and goals.
Having debuted for the Black Stars in 2019, Kudus has quickly become a key figure, displaying his talent on the global stage at events like the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was hailed as Ghana’s standout performer.
