KNUST Graduates Urged to be Agents of Change and Embrace Entrepreneurship
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) held its 57th Congregation in Kumasi, Ghana, graduating a total of 5,394 students across various programs.
The Chancellor of KNUST, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, addressed the graduating class, specifically focusing on the over 800 postgraduate students who received their PhD and MPhil degrees. He challenged them to live up to their potential as “ambassadors of knowledge and agents of change.”
Highlighting the importance of their role in shaping the nation’s future, His Majesty emphasized the values instilled by KNUST: integrity, innovation, and social responsibility. He urged the graduates to carry these values forward as they embark on their new journeys.
While acknowledging the challenges graduates may face, the Chancellor encouraged them to confront these obstacles with courage and determination.
Recognizing the evolving job market, His Majesty advocated for entrepreneurship as a key driver of success in the 21st century. He stressed the need for job creators to complement traditional employment opportunities, particularly with the increasing number of graduates entering the workforce.
The Chancellor encouraged graduates to explore entrepreneurial ventures tailored to support young minds with innovative ideas, suggesting this as a path to success beyond traditional white-collar jobs.
The 57th Congregation, which began on March 21st, saw the graduation of 2,418 undergraduate and 2,976 postgraduate students. Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, Chairman of the University Council, Justice Anin Yeboah, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Ellis Owusu-Dabo, and traditional authorities.
