Afari Hospital Commander Pleads For Otumfuo’s Intervention
The Commander of the Kumasi Military Hospital known as Afari Hospital, Brigadier General RL Mensah has sought the intervention of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu in the prompt completion and operationalization of the health facility.
The 500-bed military hospital at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagye District of the Ashanti Region which would be the country’s second military hospital after the 37 Military Hospital remains inoperative.
Giving an update about the hospital to the King, Brig. Gen. Mensah who recently took over from Brig. Gen. P. K. Ayibor as the Commander of the hospital, said the facility is yet to be completed.
“The hospital is not yet operational. From what I’m told, it is about 93% complete. I’ve been informed that this year it will be operational. I will stand by until it becomes operational and whatever will need to move the hospital forward, I will do.”
He thus pleaded for the intervention of His Majesty to expedite the processes involved.
“Let it reach His Majesty that he also adds his voice to the appeal so that…we will see the operationalization of the hospital this year.”
Brig. Gen. Mensah was part of the delegation led by the Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona who paid a courtesy visit to the King on March 19, 2024.
The Kumasi Military Hospital is one of the nine hospitals awarded to Euroget, an Egyptian investment company, for construction in the country.
It will complement the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as the chief referral medical facility in the Ashanti Region and the rest of the middle sector when completed.
