Asantehene Bids Farewell to Outgoing MTN CEO
MTN Ghana, a subsidiary of South African-based MTN Group has officially informed the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the departure of their longest-serving Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Selorm Adadevoh.
Mr Adadevoh and some Management members of MTN Ghana were at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Among the delegation were Ms. Adwoa Afriyie, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Nii Adotey Mingle, Northern Sector General Manager, Charles Osei-Akoto, Technical Head- Northern Sector and Adwoa Baah Obeng, Northern Sector Senior Manager for Retail Experience.
Also present were Simon Amoh, the Senior Manager in charge of General Trade, Nana Kofi Asare, General Manager for Legal and Regulatory, Charity Darko who is in charge of the Northern Sector Corporate Services and Augustine Wilson in charge of the Regulatory Department.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Ms Afriyie announced the promotion of Mr Adadevoh to the position of Chief Commercial Officer at MTN Group.
He takes over from Mr Jens Schulte-Bockum.
Mr Adadevoh’s appointment takes effect on April 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, she said Mr Stephen Blewett, the MTN Operations Executive in charge of Markets, will assume the role of CEO of MTN Ghana in the stead of the outgoing leader.
“Mr Adadevoh becomes the longest serving MTN Ghana CEO having held the position for almost six years.”
She furthered that his leadership has seen the company grow exponentially with numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) programmes in education, health and business.
For his part, the outgoing CEO expressed his immense gratitude to the Monarch for his support throughout the years.
“I want to thank Otumfuo for opening his doors to me when I came in. He has been of immense help to me.”
His Majesty could not agree more with Ms Afriyie on the massive growth the company had witnessed under the leadership of Mr Adadevoh.
“MTN has boosted under his leadership compared to his pre-era. There is an increase in market share.”
Expressing his confidence in him, His Majesty encouraged him to prove his worth in his new role and further encouraged him to lobby for favourable initiatives for the subsidiary in Ghana.
Additionally, the King alluded to the constant tax tussle between MTN Ghana and the government of Ghana and hoped it would be amicably settled by the next CEO.
He also called for advanced technological infrastructure to forestalling future internet disruptions, as are being witnessed in the country and parts of the sub-region.
