Even before the end of the year-long anniversary celebration of the Silver Jubilee of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, he is impressed with the work done by the members of his 25th Anniversary Planning Committee.
He called the team, including sub-committee members forward and thanked them on March 11, 2024, during the Asanteman Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace.
This was after the Chairman of the Committee, Juabenhene Daasebre Otuo Serebuo, testified of the dedication and sacrifice of the members towards the organization of various events for the anniversary.
The perfect work of the team was witnessed in the organisation of the Sagrenti War Symposium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on February 6, 2024 and the Kuntunkuni Durbar on February 8, 2024.
“We recognize your work and thank you so much for it,” His Majesty said as he called for much dedication from the team for the remaining events on schedule.
Among the members are Yamfohene Nana Ansah Adu Baah II, Tuabodomhene Nana Agyei Kooko Beyeeman, Kumawuhene Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Japeikromhene Okatakyie Amoa Aturu Nkonkonkyea ll, Bompatahene Nana Effah Apenteng, Kontenasehene Barima Ogyeabour Amankona Adunan, Otumfuo Akwamuhene (Asafohene), Akyeamfuor Asafo Boakye Agyeman Bonsu III and Otumfuo Akyeamehene Nana Nsuase Opoku Agyemang III.
The rest are Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Agogohemaa Nana Afrakomah Serwaah Kusi Oboadum, Woworahene Kontihene Nana Kwaku Ayisi, Otumfuo Hiahene Oheneba Boakye Agyei Woahene, Mr Kofi Badu, Mr Ernest Saahene, Engineer Nana Atta Poku, Mr Charles Sekyere and Dr Kwaku Mensah.
Silver Jubilee Events
The 25th Anniversary has a plethora of events slated to mark it, beginning in March and culminating in May 2024.
It will be preceded by the commissioning of the new auditorium at the Manhyia Palace on March 26, the conferment of an Honourary Doctorate Degree by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Ghana, Legon on a yet-to-be-decided date this month. There will also be a cleanup exercise across Asanteman this month.
In April, Otumfuo will host two separate durbars, the first on April 21 with fetish priests and priestesses and the second on April 24 with ethnic groups domiciled in Asanteman.
Ahead of that, there will be a launching of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competition dubbed Otumfuo STEM Festival on April 15, 2024.
Next will be firework activities at seven designated venues including Cultural Centre, Heroes’ Park, Manhyia, Tafo, Jubilee Park, Aboabo Post Office, and Adum on the eve of April 26, which will mark exactly 25 years since Otumfuo ascended the Golden Stool.
On April 26, per schedules released by the Planning Committee of the anniversary, a non-denominational thanksgiving service will take place at the Dwabrem grounds at the Manhyia Palace and there will be an anniversary dinner at the residence of the King in the evening.
There will also be a storied photo and video exhibition showcasing the reign of the King at the yet-to-be-commissioned auditorium at the Manhyia Palace in April.
Another thanksgiving service and dinner will be held at the St. Cyprian’s Church and the Manhyia Palace, respectively, on May 6 to mark the 74th birthday of the King.
From May 7 to May 10, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will hold a four-day programme in honour of their Chancellor.
The 25th Anniversary will climax on May 12, 2024, with a durbar at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
