Otumfuo 25th Anniversary: Venue For Climax Event Changed
The venue for the climax of the Silver Jubilee of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been changed from the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to the Manhyia Palace.
The decision to change the venue came about during the second sitting of the Asanteman Council on March 11, 2024.
This was after Asantehene had solicited the views of Asanteman on the Committee’s decision to hold the grand durbar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on May 12, 2024, while recalling challenges that confronted them during the celebration of his 20th Anniversary at the same venue some five years ago.
“Some celebrants who occupied a section of the stadium had their views blocked, compelling them to flow onto the pitch to catch a glimpse of traditional authorities and events that took place. Meanwhile, the Sagrenti War durbar was successfully held here at the Palace.”
The views of all divisions of the council were therefore collected with almost all the divisions suggesting that it be held at the Dwabrem Grounds of the Manhyia Palace where all other auspicious events by the Palace have been held in the recent past.
Some divisions were of the view that the Palace was the seat of the Asantehene and therefore visitors would want to familiarize themselves with the Office of the King. Others recalled the challenges they faced during the event at the stadium five years ago, and emphasized the importance of holding the event at home.
Otumfuo, in response to these, urged the Planning Committee to take the suggestions into consideration.
The decision to change it was instantly taken and announced by Nana Otuo Serebuo.
“The voice of the people is the call of God. The event will be held here just as Nananom have recommended.”
His Majesty the King will this year be 25 years on the Golden Stool. It will be 25 years of unparalleled and distinguished leadership.
A lot of events have been booked to mark the Silver Jubilee including a Thanksgiving service, a series of durbars, firework activities and dinners.
