Ghana Football Association and referees Association of Ghana have appointed Togolese referees to handle Asante Kotoko and Asec Mimosas in the 2024 Presidential Cup in Kumasi.

Referee Kouassi Attisso Attiogbe will officiate the Independence Day President’s Cup match between Asante Kotoko SC and ASEC Mimosas on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Togolese Referee will be assisted by his compatriots Adiwotso Komlan and Kpelafia Abdou with Ghana’s Julian Nunoo as the fourth official.

Mr. Frederick Pappoe will be the Match Commissioner for the match.

Togolese match officials will be in charge when Asante Kotoko and Asec Mimosas lock horns in this year’s President’s Cup.

Kotoko and the Ivorian giants will battle it out for the 2024 President’s Cup trophy on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 just a day before Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebration.

The game will be hosted at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, with both head of states, Nana Akufo-Addo and Alassane Ouattara expected to attend the event.

To ensure fairness, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has engaged the Ghana Football Association to appoint a neutral referee to handle the clash between the two Africa heavyweight.

However, the much-anticipated encounter will be handled by Togolese referees.

Kick off time for the match is 4pm.

Hearts of Oak are the current holders of the President Cup after beating Asante Kotoko narrowly in the 2023 edition.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko are the record holders of the Cup competition, with eight titles under their belt.

The GHALCA President’s Cup is an annual football event that brings together two top clubs at the end of the season. Also known as the Republic Day Celebrations Cup, the match is held in honour of the sitting President of Ghana and is typically played in July to coincide with Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, Kumasi Asante Kotoko secured a narrow win against Bibiani Gold Stars in the week 19 of the Ghana Premier League

The closely contested encounter saw the home side rebound from a disappointing defeat to Heart of Lions in the previous week.

Kotoko secured their breakthrough in the first half as Peter Amidu seized an opportunity from a skillful passing sequence, successfully finding the net while Gold Stars grappled to cope with the unfolding situation.

Capitalizing on the finishing, the Porcupine Warriors clinched a decisive victory, securing all three points and rebounding from the setback against Heart of Lions. This triumph temporarily elevates Kotoko to second place in the rankings, narrowing the gap with the leading side to a mere three points and reinforcing their status as formidable contenders for the title.
